At Cavachons by Design, we love hearing how our puppies grow into beloved family members. Some of the most meaningful moments come from updates like this one—from Carole, who welcomed one of our beautiful Cavachons into her heart and home years ago.
As a sports fan with the last name Miller, Carole and her husband found the perfect name for they’re new pup: Bode—inspired by none other than Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller. And just like his namesake, this Bode has a champion spirit all his own.
From the very beginning, Bode made an unforgettable impression:
“From the day we met, it was apparent that Bode was extremely intelligent, fun loving, social with all people & dogs, loyal and a dedicated family lover.” say’s Carole
Every day begins the same way—with living room ball retrieving until Carole says, “Ok, I’m done.” Then he carries the ball into the kitchen, satisfied that the morning ritual has been properly completed.
Belly rubs not optional. That’s just part of the routine, too.
Carole shares that Bode is an incredible listener. He tilts his head and responds to nearly everything, even when spoken to by visiting friends. Words like “walk, dinner, go to bed, ride, drop it, go get your toy, and who’s coming to see you?” are part of his daily vocabulary. He even knows what “There’s one!” means—his cue to scan for geckos and get to work.
When it comes to toys, Bode has a clear philosophy: stuffing is optional, squeakers are not. Over the years, he’s maintained a special attachment to his toy “security blanket,” especially during Florida thunderstorms. When the lightning rolls in, he barks to alert the house and finds comfort curled up with his longtime plush companion.
And while Bode is easygoing, he also has some of his own opinions. He notices everything that’s new or moved in the house—and if something doesn’t meet his approval, he’ll let you know with an “alert” bark. This boy is SMART! Bode believes in house management—and in his mind, it’s him.
In the neighborhood, Bode takes his social role seriously. He’s the official head greeter of any new dog or person who happens to stop by during daily “Yappy Hour.” And if someone shows up without his best friend? He’s not shy about speaking up—“Ok Bode, I’ll go get Lily.” It’s clear who sets the tone for the block.
Whether he’s alerting the yard to uninvited squirrels and geckos or riding shotgun in the golf cart, Bode knows how to enjoy life to the fullest. He makes regular stops by the gates of his favorite neighborhood pals—his own way of letting them know it’s time to come out and play.
With an impressive vocabulary and deep understanding of routines and words, he’s tuned in to everyone around him:
“He can be expressive in his desire to do his favorite things—ball retrieving, chasing geckos, squirrels and birds invading his yard, rides as navigator of the golf cart…”
Now that his family has entered retirement, Bode has happily adjusted right alongside them—embracing the slower mornings, cozy routines, and extra time together. He’s content to sleep in as long as needed and seems to appreciate this new season of life just as much as they do. Whether it’s a quiet morning nap or a leisurely golf cart ride, Bode is right there—taking it all in, one peaceful day at a time.
And Bode’s charm doesn’t stop at the neighborhood fence—it’s even made its way to the golf course. His dad proudly sports a custom golf club head cover made to look just like Bode. It never fails to turn heads and spark conversations. Golfers often stop to ask, “What kind of dog is that?” The answer is always said with pride:
“A Cavachon—from the best breeder there is.”
“At 10, he has been so healthy, that yearly routine checkups have been all that has been needed—definitely a statement for your successful breeding of healthy, loving & intelligent loved family members. We are blessed with our Cavachons By Design treasure.” says Carole.
Words truly can’t express how much joy Bode has brought into his family’s life:
Thank you, Carole, for giving Bode such a wonderful life and for sharing his story with us. We’re honored to have played a small part in the happiness he’s brought to your home and neighborhood. He’s woven into all of your lives in the most special way.
